Manipur police observes 114th raising day; Governor expresses concern over increase in kidnapping for ransom and bomb attack

Manipur police observed 114th raising day at 1st MR complex today. Governor, Gurbachan Jagat, C.M. O. Ibobi, his council of ministers, top civil and police officials were also present on the occasion. Governor Gurbachan took the salutes for the march past of 18th contingent representing Manipur police, IRB, VDF, Traffic Police and Home Guards.—(V)
As part of the raising day, DGP recommendation awards were given to 80 police personnel for meritorious service. The awardees includes amongst others IPS, Angam Kamei, Ningsen Warngam, MPS officers, L. Ibotombi, Additional S.P., Law and order, M. Rajen, Additional S.P. Operations, N. Herojit, Additional S.P., Law and Order, SDPO, Birababu and Madhunimai, Asst Commandant, P. Manjit and SDPO, S. Ibomcha. Among the inspectors, R.K. Tejbir, N. Binoy, Gonmai Thaingam, James Thangal and Subedar D. Robinson were also included.—(V)

Speaking on the occasion, DGP,Y. Joykumar said Manipur police was set up as State Military Police in the year 1892 and today Manipur Police completes 114 years of service for the state. After independence, the state police forces have turned its might against insurgency and in maintaining law and order both in the hills and valley. ---(V)
Governor Gurbachan in his address as Chief Guest of the function, lauded the service of Manipur Police for the people of the state in maintaining law and order as well as in containing the insurgency movement. Police personnel of the state have fought with dedication - the well equipped militants and attributed the decline in the level of violence over the years to the selfless sacrifice of police personnel. He however lamented saying kidnapping for ransom and bomb attack at the private houses for extortion is on the rise. He also observed that due to the extortion of funds meant for development activities, people of the state were suffering a lot. To strengthen the manpower of the police, more than ten thousand police officers and personnel have been recruited recently and India govt. is taking keen interest in modernization of state police. Apart from it Manipur Police Training school at Pangei has been upgraded to the status of a College. He also urged the police personnel to win the confidence and trust of the people. He also asserted that guns will not bring any solution and appealed the UG’s to come forward for peace talk and added that the doors are open for peace talk with the UG’s.—(V)





Family member of UNLF Chairman, R.K. Meghen sought clarification on his present status

Family members of UNLF Chairman, R.K. Meghen today expressed confusion over the whereabout of R.K. Sanayaima also known as Meghen who was arrested in Dhaka. R.K. Chingkhei, son of Meghen speaking to a group of media persons who visited his residence said that the contradicting report of his father’s arrest from Bangladesh and handing over to Indian Govt. in some sections of the media and its denial by the Govt. of India has really confused their family. He appealed to the Govt. of India to clarify where about of his father to the family members. He also said that written statement regarding the arrest of his father have been sent to High Commissioner, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights at Geneva. Similar statement have also been sent to the Secretary Home, Govt. of India and Chairperson of National Human Rights Commission inquiring the where about, facts and incident of arrest, present status and location of Meghen.—(V)





Music competition at Palace compound

One time popular tabla artist who mesmerized the music fans of the state by rocking them at the aged of 8 has once more come up after bagging first position in the instrumental music –tabla competition in the three day state level music competition organized on the occasion of 75th Death Anniversary of Chaturpandit Shri Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande at Shri Shri Balmukunda Dev Music College Palce compound. The boy is none other than Hony Kenoa of Hoabam Marak. In the competition Th. Ronika bagged the first position in the Senior Hindustan Classical Vocal, Ch. Sangeeta Devi bagged first in the junior and M. Cherrish bagged first in instrumental competition. A valedictory function for the occasion was held today at Palace compound. Commissioner of Arts and Culture RK Nimai and Director Sorojini graced the function as chief Guest and President respectively. Speaking on the occasion RK Nimai lauded the effort of the Shri Shri Balmukunda Dev Music College for promotion of classical music. He said Chaturpandit Shri Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande was person who dedicated hold his life for the promotion of classical Hindustani music. –(V)

Kodompokpi water supply

RCC pillars used for fencing reservoir of a water supply scheme at Kodompokpi Mamang Leikai today crumbled as quality was not maintained. The pillars were used for fencing 300 meters around the reservoir. Members of the senior club, Kodompokpi and Adhyakshya of Imphal West, Subhashchandra inspected the condition of the fencing today. Contrary to the expectation of the people, the pillars were easily breakable and crumbled by mere handling. The pillars were made without right proportion of cement. Adhyakshya also sought the attention of the local MLA. According to the S.O. of PHED, Manaobi, the Dept. has sanctioned a total amount of 1lac and twenty thousand for fencing the reservoir. The work has been executed under one Rinku in the name of contractor, Asem Kabui. He also maintained that till today the sanctioned amount has not been released by the Dept. and assured to take up befitting action against the contractor.—(V)






Bomb attack at Singjamei

Women folk of Singjamei Chingamakha Tomal Leirak and surrounding locality today staged a sit in protest against planting a hand grenade at the residence of Asem Guneshwor of Tomal Leirak. The bomb was planted yesterday around 1.30 PM by proscribed KCP( Khaba).The protest denounced planting of bomb in the residential areas and urged the concerned party to let the people live in peace. Speaking to ISTV News, wife of Guneshwor said KCP (Khaba) has served monetary demand to Imphal Finance Co-Operative Thrift Society. She further maintained that her husband is the managing director of the society and expressed dissent against planting of bomb at her house for it. She also observed that the party could sort out the matter through peaceful negotiation.—(V)

The program was conducted jointly by National small Industries Co-Operation limited and Welfare Training Institute, Takyel. P. UNLF confirm the arrest of its chairman from Bangladesh

Armed opposition group United National Liberation Front today confirm the arrest of its chairman from Bangladesh. In a press statement issued by the Vice Chairman, Kh. Pambei of the armed group, Chairman Sanayaima was picked up by a combined troop of Indian Intelligence Agency (RAW) and the Bangladesh Intelligence, from Lalmati area under Mohammadpur Police Station in Dhaka on 29 September 2010. He was picked up by the combined team while driving his own vehicle bearing registration number Dhaka Metro G- 17-0716. According to the statement of the Vice President the news for his informal arrest was conveyed by the Chairman himself to the members of the organisation. Later when a team of rush the area they have been confirmed about the arrest of their Chairman along with his vehicle. The matter was reported to Mohamadpur Police Station and later published in two Bangladesh News paper “Yugantor” and “Inqilab” as missing report. Later, after consultation among the Central Committee of the UNLF, Vice Chairman of the front approached the Bangladesh Government for released of the Chairman as the armed opposition group has been fighting for the liberation of the oppressed Manipur. However instead of listening to the outfit’s request, the Bangladesh Government and Indian Government tried to conceal the matter of the arrest of their chairman for around 10 days and later took him to New Delhi in an Indian special flight. The news of his arrest was published by BBC and later at local news papers of the state. However, India government and Bangladesh government still did not give any official statement regarding the arrest as their act was in violation of the International Law. The UNLF statement further said such action of the India government will not be able to suppress the national liberation movement. It will only strengthen the spirit of movement.


Kalam Day observed

Dr Kalam Day Celebration was held today at Bunglon High School at Churachandpur District. The function was held in commemoration of the historic visit of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the then President of India on 16th October 2006. The function was attended by Assistant Commissioner of Churachandpur district Mani Ram Sharma, Editor of ISTV News, Rinku Khumukcham, Lieutenant of Maratha Light Infantry Mr. Sandeep, correspondent of Prashar Bharti Dr Ibomcha and Field Exhibition Officer of DAVP, Govt. of India Gin Gangte as Presidium members. A memorandum requesting the improvement of the infrastructure of the school was also submitted to the Assistant Commissioner Mani Ram Sharma. Giving keynote address at the function Field Exhibition Officer Gin Gangte spoke about the importance of the celebration of the function. It was on this historic day on 2006 that the then President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam visited the school located at the most neglected part of Manipur, which is a manifestation of Dr Kalam’s love and care for the poor and downtrodden. The visit was historic as Dr Kalam was the first President of India to have footed his feet in the soil of southern part of Manipur, he added. Editor of ISTV English News Rinku Khumukcham spoke about the life and vision of Dr Kalam. He said that the main factor of the alienation of the people in the North Eastern region especially Manipur was the negligence of the region by the mainland leaders. But things were different when the then President of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam visited Manipur. When each of the leaders preferred the capital of the state, Dr Kalam chose a school located at the interior part of the state, he added. He said that Dr Kalam regarded his work on India’s nuclear weapons program as a way to assert India’s place as a future superpower. Assistant Commissioner of Churachandpur district Mani Ram Sharma said that Dr Kalam was his inspiration. Like Dr Kalam, he too came up from a very poor family, studied in a poor school yet he succeeded. So the students of Bungyon High School can succeed in future. Paddy fields still seen submerged

Several hectares of paddy field are still seen submerged under water at many parts of Leimapokpam and Nambol area in Bishnupur District. At Khabeisoi Ingourol Loukol in Imphal East around 200 hectares of Paddy field have been severely affected by the recent flood. Local activists and farmers urged government authority to provide compensation for the affected paddy field.








Japan had assured to take up several development projects in the state

The fastest developed nation of the Far East Asia Japan had assured to take up several development projects in the state if the ongoing sericulture project has been proved success. This was stated by the Principal of the Center for Japanese Language Imphal, Irungbam Mangal in an exclusive meeting with the ISTV News. The Center for Japanese Language has been giving training for Japanese language to the youths of the state since 1990. He said the Center has good relations with the Japan Government as it has been included in the International Directory. The center had sent two youths of the state for participation of youth exchange programme held at Japan during the year 2009 and 2010. Mangal said if the Japanese government takes up development projects in the state, several hundreds of youth in the state will be benefitted. –(V)

News of Keishamthong

Amidst complaints and controversies over the distributions of immediate relief materials to the flood victims of the state, Government continues to distribute relief materials. In Keishamthong Assembly Constituency, Education Minister L. Jyentakumar who is also the local MLA of the constituency today supervised the distributions of relief materials to the flood victims of his constituency. The Minister today handed over 480 bags of rice and Kerosene to 4 councilors and club members for distribution to the flood victims. Speaking on the occasion Education Minister L. Jyentakumar said in addition to the relief materials distributed by the government he had also sanction Rs. 3 lakhs in consultation with the Kendra Development Committee and distributed 3 Kg of rice each to the flood victim families of his constituency. Relief materials from the government have also started distribution and after two three days Kerosene will also be made available to the victim family. –(V)

Women’s Empowerment Organisation also continues their Samaritan service to the flood victims by distributing 3 Kg of rice to their members. 80 members of the self help groups located at Wangkhei Meihoubam Lampak, Wangkhei Koijam Koijam Leirak, Bamon Leikai and Thangjam Leirak which were run under the organization were benefited. –(V)







News of Road conditions

Villagers of Hiyangthang Tarahei Konjil heibokching today expressed strong resentment over the negligence of its village by the government. The anger seem perhaps justified as the condition of the inter village road is in most traumatic state. The villagers now asked if the development funds sanctioned by the government of India did not include the village, which has a total of over 150 houses. They said the attitude of the state government in taking up development work is quite derogatory. It may be noted that the both Meitei and Muslim community has been living together in the village since the last 100 years. Besides, an important religious place of the Meitei hindu – Heibok Ching Mahadeva has also been located in the region. The inter village road is also one of the important road that link with the main road Mayai Lambi. Villagers now drew attention of the concerned authority for immediate steps to construct or improved the road threatening agitations if the authority fails to do so.-(V)
On the other hands the condition of Tiddim road in between Nambol and Bishnupur is presently at most dilapidated conditions. As the quality was not properly maintained during the time of black topping many portion are now filled with potholes creating inconveniences for vehicular movements. There were apprehensions of road accident if the concerned authority did not maintain the road at the earliest possible time. –(No)

Tension erupts among the business partners of online base money making business Jainex International Trade after the web page www.jitmarket .com appears as default page saying that there is no web site at this address. Around hundreds of enraged people who invested money on this business with hope to earn quick and easy money thronged to the house of Huidrom Nandakumar at Khagempalli panthak today morning. According to an investor, the webpage has been found unavailable from Thursday afternoon. When this reporter try to open the webpage by logging on the address www.jitmarket .com the page simply appear as default page. According to an investor the Jainex international trade was launched in the state by one Huidrom Nandakumar of Khagempali panthak on September 21st and login of registration fees and invest money began on 29th of September this year. Minimum amount for investment in the business is 6,000/- rupees and maximum amount have no limitation. Investors were also told that the business company is among the major financial companies of China. The administrative office of the Jainex International trade in India is stated to be at Amrali, Banglore Road, Karnataka. Founder of the company is stated to be one Dr. Jairdes Nexblim of China. Financial head in India is told to be one Vijay Dharwal and Marketing head in India as Chautanya Parikh. Name of three person – Rajendra Misra, Govind Kinare and Narendra Rathore are told to be the authorized promoters of the trade. As according to a promotional Boucher the company has an account at – Ing Vysya Bank and its account number is 509011017895. An enraged investor while talking to media persons said that around 20,000 people have joined the networking business so far, as they have been convinced about the earning of 12 to 15% of the total invest money every day upto to a period of 75 days. As according to them out of these 75 days an investor will get the amount for 52 working days. The level of amount grows as according to the mode of visiting the web site. An investor who do not want to disclosed his identities said the total amount invested by the investor might cross rupees 30 crore. He said Huidrom Nabakumar the seed of this business used to contact a person called NK Singh based in Bangalore however, NK Singh while talking to ISTV News over telephone said he is in no way related to the Business except being an investor. He said he is presently working as a lecture in a college at Punjab. He joined the Jainex International Trade through a local friend from Ningthoukhong as a down line. As the situation remained tense a group of police commando picked up Huidrom Nandakumar. A team of Singjamei police who arrived on the spot however control the tense mob.

Combined troop gunned down an UG cadre in encounter; another killed by unidentified gunmen

Combined security force killed an underground cadre at Langathel Khongjom area in Thoubal district at around 2.30 am today morning. The deceased has been identified as one Moirangthem Ngouba aged 32 of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai. According to source from police, the cadre was killed during an encounter with a combined team of 15 Assam Rifles and Thoubal Police commando. The team recovered one AK 47 rifles, one hand grenade, and one magazine with 10 live rounds. According to family member Ngouba was a former member of UNLF and has been discharging from the group on medical ground. He was found missing since the night of 13 October after he went out of home in a bicycle. The family members refused to believe the encounter story. The dead body has been deposited at RIMS Morgue. –(V)
On the other hand unknown gunmen shot dead a person at Wakha Ching in Imphal East district at around 11 30 pm last night. The deceased has been identified as one Md. Romesh @ Ithem of Kshetri Bengun Awang Leikai. He was 27 years old. According to source three gunmen picked up the deceased from his residence and shot him dead near Wakha ching. His dead body has also been deposited at RIMS Morgue for autopsy. –(V)


Black day observed

Various rebel group of the region including RPF, PREPAK and KCP today observed Black Day in protest against the annexation of Manipur by the Indian Union on 15of October 1949. Market places, business establishment and shops remained closed as various rebel group called general strike and public curfew on the day. Inter district buses and other commercial vehicles stay off the road due to the protest. However there were no reports of any unwanted incident during the general strike. –(V)
